At Imperial Homes, caring for the natural environment is an important part of every development we undertake. As work begins at our Church Road site in Warsash, we want to share more about the ecological works currently taking place and explain how these carefully planned activities help to protect and enhance local wildlife habitats.

Before any construction begins, a series of ecological preparations must take place to ensure the site is responsibly managed and that wildlife living there is protected. All works currently being undertaken are fully approved by the local authority and are being supervised at all times by a licensed ecologist.

Protecting Local Wildlife

Between March and May 2026, the focus on site is entirely ecological. These works are designed to safeguard species already living within the area and create improved habitats for the future.

Initial activities include carefully managed vegetation clearance, which allows ecological protection measures to be installed across the site. This includes reptile fencing designed to guide and safely contain protected species during the survey and relocation process.

At the same time, new ecological features are being created, including habitat areas and wildlife ponds, which will provide long-term benefits for biodiversity in the area.

The works also involve the removal of invasive plant species such as laurel. While this may appear visually dramatic at first, it is an important step in restoring healthier native habitats that support a much wider variety of wildlife.

Ecological Surveys and Species Protection

Following the initial ecological preparation works, detailed surveying will begin. From late March through to May 2026, ecologists will be monitoring the site for slow worms and other protected species.

If wildlife is identified during these surveys, it will be safely captured and relocated to specially prepared ecological receptor areas. These areas have been carefully designed to provide suitable long-term habitats where animals can continue to thrive.

Careful Management Throughout Construction

During this early stage, the site boundaries will be secured with construction fencing. These measures help ensure both the safety of the public and the protection of wildlife habitats during the ecological works and the future construction phase.

Ecological protection measures installed now will remain in place throughout the development, ensuring wildlife continues to be safeguarded while the new homes are built.

Working Responsibly in Warsash

We understand that early site works can sometimes appear significant, particularly when vegetation management is required. However, these steps are an essential and carefully controlled part of responsible development and are undertaken with the long-term health of the local environment in mind.

Our aim is not only to build high-quality homes, but to do so in a way that respects and enhances the natural surroundings.

If you have any questions during the construction phase, please feel free to contact the Imperial Homes team.
