The kitchen has truly become the heart of the home. No longer simply a space for cooking, it is where families come together, friends gather and much of everyday life takes place. This is particularly important in modern new homes, where open-plan kitchen, dining and living spaces are designed around the way people live today.

Statement Islands & More Elaborate Design

One of the biggest trends we’re seeing is the kitchen island becoming a genuine centrepiece of the room.

Rather than simply adding a row of units and a worktop, islands are becoming more elaborate pieces of furniture. Larger feature posts, decorative end panels, contrasting colours and seating areas can all be used to give an island greater presence and create a real statement.

We’re also seeing a return to more traditional design details, particularly in premium kitchens. Features such as traditional cornice, decorative cabinetry and more substantial finishing details add character and a sense of craftsmanship, helping to elevate the kitchen beyond a purely functional space and give it a more bespoke, high-end appearance.

These details can be combined with contemporary layouts to create kitchens that feel both current and timeless, bringing traditional influences into a modern new home.

Bolder Colours & Finishes

For many years, the new-build market was dominated by relatively safe kitchen colours. White, cream and various shades of grey provided a neutral specification with broad appeal.

Those colours haven’t disappeared, but there is now much more confidence around colour.

Colour is becoming more adventurous. Deep greens, reds, rich blues, warm earthy tones and natural woodgrains are increasingly being used alongside more traditional neutral shades.

Contrasting islands are particularly effective, allowing a bolder colour or finish to be introduced without overwhelming the room. Combined with quartz worktops and feature detailing, this can transform the kitchen into one of the property’s strongest design features.

A Collaborative Approach to Kitchen Design

At Tailor Made Kitchens, our approach is about much more than simply supplying a kitchen. By working collaboratively with Imperial Homes from the design and specification stages, we can bring together our kitchen expertise with Imperial’s vision for each individual home.

Together, we consider how the space will look, how it will be used and the details that can make it feel special. From statement islands and carefully considered storage to worktops, colours and the latest appliance technology, every element has a part to play.

This collaborative approach allows us to create kitchens that are beautiful without compromising on practicality, rooms designed not only to make an immediate impression, but to work effortlessly for the families who will live in them.

For TMK, that’s what creating the heart of the home is really about.
