At Imperial Homes, we believe that building new homes is about more than bricks and mortar, it’s about creating places that live in harmony with their natural surroundings. Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming pupils from Hook-with-Warsash Church of England Academy to our development at The Moorings, Warsash, for a hands-on ecology visit that brought this philosophy to life.
Working closely with the pupils of the school council, the visit forms part of a wider project where the children are designing their own “dream ecological home.” As part of this, they are exploring how nature and development can coexist, understanding the habitats found on building sites, how we preserve them, and when necessary, how we carefully and responsibly relocate wildlife.
The day was led by Peach Ecology, who guided the children through the ecology of the site with both expertise and enthusiasm. The session introduced them to a variety of species that can be found in and around new developments, from birds and bees to insects and reptiles.

One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity for the children to see, and even hold, slow worms. They learned about their habitats, behaviour, and one of their most fascinating defense mechanisms, the ability to drop their tail when threatened to escape predators. It was a moment of genuine curiosity and excitement, and a wonderful way to connect learning with real-world experience.
What stood out most was the children’s engagement. They asked thoughtful, informed questions and demonstrated a depth of knowledge about habitats and wildlife. Their enthusiasm was a reminder of how important it is to nurture environmental awareness from a young age.

To support their ongoing learning, the academy was given a bird box and a bee brick to take back to the school, small but meaningful ways to encourage biodiversity in their own environment.
We are now eagerly looking forward to seeing the children’s ecological home designs and how they interpret what they’ve learned. It’s an inspiring collaboration and one that reflects our commitment to thoughtful, responsible development.
At The Moorings, we are proud to create homes that not only respect the landscape but also inspire future generations to care for it.
